How can you correctly calculate results for one required and one optional quiz?

Dec 14, 2015

I want to design a course with one required quiz and one optional quiz in the same storyline course. Is there a way to create a results slide for the entire course that will use the results from the required quiz if they only complete the required quiz, BUT will also average the results from the required quiz AND the optional quiz if they take both?

Hi Joanna!

You can choose to track via the required quiz result slide or you could track the results of both sets of results of the required and optional quiz, but this would cause issue for those that opt to not take the optional quiz.

Perhaps someone in the community will be able to pop in and share their ideas for your design.

Hi Leslie,

I'm thinking that I can create a third results slide that has something like this in the logic for how it calculates results:

If NO results for optional quiz, then overall results = results of required quiz

If YES results for optional quiz, then overall results= (# correct on required + # correct on optional) / total questions * 100 = results

BUT, I don't know how to make this happen within the articulate logic on the results slide...

Any ideas?

Each quiz question and each result slide creates variables that you can use to make calculations like the ones you're describing.

You can also access your variables, change the names if you want them to be something more meaningful and easy to work with without affecting your results slides or what is sent to the LMS (if you're using an LMS).

Additionally, you can modify the result slide itself without affecting your results.  The main purpose of the result slide is to submit your final scores.
