I saw in another discussion that this is an enhancement that being worked on, but I'm looking for information on inserting an object(s) into an existing group, so I don't have to redo all the animations and triggers I have on the group.
I think I recall doing this once before on accident, but I can't remember how...or I'm just engaging in some serious wishful thinking.
OK...five minutes after posting the original I once again accidently stumbled into how to do this, but I paid attention this time. When I insert the new object into the group (an image in this case) I had the group open on the timeline and one of the objects in the group selected. I did Insert>Picture>Picture from File... and it inserted the image into the group.
I'm not sure how much of all that is required (e.g., group open on timeline), but that's what worked for me.

So glad you found the solution here! I know this will help others who come across a similar ask.
The simple way is to copy the object and then click into the group so an object is selected and paste
