How do I pull specific questions from a bank and display them in a fixed order?

May 22, 2020

I am updating a course that contains a Question Bank of 10 questions. The client now wants the final assessment to contain only Questions 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8 from that Bank. She wants those specific questions displayed in that specific order every time--no shuffling.

Can I set up a Draw from the Question Bank that explicitly goes 1-2-3-5-8, in that order?  If not, how do I get those five questions into a non-random, non-shuffled assessment?

Hi Bob, why not remove the questions she doesn't want from the bank and change the draw to 'ALL' and turn off 'random'. As long as the questions are in the order above it should always pull them in that order.  An alternative would be to remove the questions from the bank and just have them in the story file one after the other.

Thx for the reply.

I want to keep the questions (customers have a way of changing their minds!!) but just not use them in the current edition of the course. I couldn't see a way to remove a question from the Draw; I could only remove (delete) them from the Bank, which I don't want to do.

I tinkered with pulling the questions out of the Bank into a new Scene, yada yada yada, but I just didn't want to do a lot of work setting Triggers and setting navigation to/from the quiz, and so on. I was trying to do minimal change to an existing course built by another author...tiptoe in and then tiptoe out. With your ideas in hand I did some more experimenting.

I found that if I set the Include in Shuffle setting for an unused question to Never, and leave the Draw questions randomly checkbox unchecked, I get the result I want: a subset of the Draw presented in a fixed order, with unused questions still available if/when the customer changes things and wants them back in the quiz. Great!
