How do you edit motion paths?
Jan 13, 2015
Hi there
How do you edit a path after it has been drawn (like you can right click and edit the points in Powerpoint) please? I know there is an option to 'change freeform' but that just starts again as a new path. Am I missing a technique for getting points to edit?
The paths I need are for technical diagrams and have to be exact and it isn't always easy first time and they need minor adjustments. Sometimes I have two things which need to move at different speeds around different parts of a diagram and end up at exactly the same place at the same time.
I love the inspired 'relative start point' feature, and good to be able to use triggers with motion paths, but I'm finding the actual drawing of the paths rather clunky. My powerpoint motion paths aren't importing as they are in the original powerpoint file, they end up all over the place completely different shape paths, or I would just use those. I tend to draft stuff in PPt anyway as Storyline takes most of it in so well.
Thanks

One more quick question. Can you rename motion paths? I can't find where to change the auto-names.
Thanks
Hi Sarah,
The options for editing a motion path are detailed here.
In regards to changing the motion path - there isn't an option to change them as they don't appear on the timeline where you could normally edit the names of objects.
I could not select a path until I sent the object the path was on to the back.
Thanks for popping in to share Norm! You probably saved someone some time in the future for sure ;)
Yes, Norm! Definitely saved me some time (and face-palms). Thanks!
Ashley - lots of good information in that article you reference. I would recommend adding information about selecting the path by moving its object to the back, as Norm described below.
Thanks!
Love that feedback Rachel, and I'm so glad you found what you needed right away.
is there any explanation of each of the motion path options are for? - for example what on earth does the Bounce option do on the Speed settings?.
It is time consuming going back and forward to test it to try and find out what it does
Thanks
Hi Mark!
Perhaps this article is what you are looking for.
Hopefully that helps, if not, just let me know.
Thanks Leslie
