How to control video playing by trigger in Storyline 2 file

Dec 01, 2015

Is there any way to use trigger(s) to control playing video that is already embedded in Storyline 2 file?

1) Basic control: start to play/pause/stop video by trigger

2) Advance control: play video at a specific time (like 30") initiated by trigger

Thank you very much!

Hi Yan, Yes this is possible.

First create a new trigger and then choose, Play/Pause/Stop media as the action.

1) Basic control: start to play/pause/stop video by trigger

When: Select the appropriate trigger action to play/Pause/Stop the video, e.g. button clicked or variable reached .etc

2. Advance control: play video at a specific time (like 30") initiated by trigger

In the When field, click "Timeline Reaches".

This now offers a new option for When. You can now select the timimg in seconds for when you want the start/stop/pause to be triggered.

Best of  luck with it!

Hello! I have a follow up question: Is it possible to create a trigger that tells the movie to go back a certain amount of time? I was thinking of adding a shape that rests on top of the video that the user could click which would "rewind" the video by 10 seconds.

We can't allow our users to advance forward in the video, but do want to give them the ability to go back in the event they miss something. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to do this and I've come up with nothing.

There is no way to navigate/rewind to a specific frame in an embedded video.
