How to fix this extra margins?

Hi,
Had an annoying bug in QM '13 - when we have a ReTry button - if someone failed and then passed - their score is correct, but their status is still Failed (so learners do not see that they actually passed, and in the reports, they do not appear as passed either).
This is in the last version update.
So.. since I have SL as well, imported the quiz into SL 3 - now I have these gray margins on both sides, which I'm not able to get rid of (gray blocks on the slide itself are just to cover the text).
Which definition should solve that?

Hi Efrat
Check the player properties and slide properties - those margins normally mean SL is making allowance for player properties that may be displaying on other slides but not this slide.
About the gray margins: At a guess - you may have the Menu set to display at the top, but disabled - see menutop.png.
If that's the case, if you move the menu down to the sidebar, and keep it disabled, the gray margins should disappear. See menuside.png
If this is the issue, it's an old bug in Storyline - the reason for the gray bars is that when the menu is placed in the topbar, Storyline makes room for it - even if it (and all other top entries) is disabled (and even if they're disabled on all slides). However, if (and only if) it's disabled, Storyline then also fails to make the entire player taller to accommodate the added space for the top menu.
So, it adds space for the menu at the top, but doesn't change the complete height of the player.
This, in turn, means that there'll be too little height/vertical space for the slides, so they'll be automatically scaled down (and centered) to fit the remaining height in the slide view. Since the horizontal space for the slide is still exactly large enough to show an unscaled slide, there'll be too much horizontal space now that it's been scaled down - leaving the gray margins.
In short, if you disable the menu, leave it in the sidebar, not in the topbar.
Thanks.
Since all were imported from QM - all slides were the same size.
But Jimmi's suggestion worked. Never encountered this bug so far...
Hi Efrat,
Are you also using a Question draw slide for a Question Bank? If so, that matches a behavior we've seen in Storyline 3 and 360 where a player with the Menu hidden on the Topbar does not fill the content area and instead shows extra space on the sides, when the project has a Question Draw slide.
Let me know if that matches your set up, and if you're not sure I'm happy to take a look at your .story file to test it. Upload it to me here using the Add Attachment button at the bottom of the reply window.
Yeah, the issue I was talking about in the earlier post is the one you mention, Ashley - I forgot to include that it only happens when a Question Bank is involved. In other words, the last sentence should have read:
"In short, if you disable the menu in a course that uses Question Banks, leave it in the sidebar, not in the topbar."
The reason the Question Bank causes this issue seems to be that normally, when disabling the menu globally, no scenes or slides are added to the menu when publishing. But Question draw slides are still added.
Which causes the player to reserve space for the menu, in spite of it not actually being visible. And the fact that it's disabled/not visible causes the player to not expand its height to make room for the additional top bar. Again, meaning that there'll be too little space for the slide view, and the slides will be scaled down to fit.
Thanks for those details, Jimmi. It does sound like the problem you're seeing is related to the bug Ashley mentioned. We'll be sure to add your experience to our report. As soon as we get an update on a fix, we'll let you know!
