I am not sure how I did this. I lost the checkmarks that usually show up on a menu. How do I get this feature back on the menu page after an someone completes a module?

Are you using the Modern Player style? Here's how you can check:
Select Home on your top ribbon.
Select Player.
Choose between Modern or Classic next to Player Style.
