How to stop a layer appearing when returning to slide 1

Jun 01, 2023

Hi Everyone,

I followed the 'Create a Simple Office Exploration Interaction in Storyline 360' and have created it as it should be, except, after each slide it jumps back to first slide (as it should), but I don't want it to show Layer 1 where it provides the starting instructions.

How do I get it to go back to slide one, but only show the base layer, not layer 1.

Thank you all!

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for reaching out!

You can use a variable to control if a layer will display on a slide or not. You can use a True/False variable along with triggers that will change the value of the variable from false to true or vice versa to control the layer. I've attached a sample project file so you can see a very basic version of this method.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi all,

I have an additional question to this one. I am currently already using a variable to make a layer appear (layer appears when user finishes a quiz). Because I only need this layer to show once and I cannot use a second variable inside the trigger I am searching for solutions. Does anything come to mind?

Thank you!

Hello Kayleigh,

Happy to help!

It would be helpful if we can see what you already have setup so we can help you with your design inquiry. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

I've also attached a sample file so you can see how using a numerical variable can be used to make sure that a layer is only shown once and then never again in the course. There are different methods that can be used to achieve your design requirement, but you can use this one as a starting off point.
