hyperlink not working after publish
Jan 15, 2014
Hello all,
I have an issue with hyperlinks and I'm looking for help.
Here is the situation:
I have imported 50 external documents in the ressources of the player.
I want these documents to be available at any time by the learner. This is working perfectly when opening the ressources tab.
I also want the same documents to be linked with specific slides or slide layers.
I have been unsuccessfull since several days but finally, made some progress.
I have established links using the recommandations in the various tutorials I found and applied the formula:
story_content/external_files/xxxx.pdf
in the trigger wizard.
All the links I established this way are working. That's a good point !
However, after publishing (for web):
- All is working on my computer (links and ressources), but only when opened with IE, not with Google Chrome.
- the ressources are available when played on another computer
- but none of the links is working when played on another computer. (tested with IE)
The documents are all in the external files folder.
It looks like the links do not work.
Do you have any idea of what I could possibly have missed or anything that could help in getting the links working.
Our tutorial has to be released in january the latest, so we have to implement the solution in the coming days, otherwise we will have to implement a B plan without links but it would be a bit disappointing.
Best regards

Hi Patrick, this may be a silly question, but did you test your project LOCALLY (played from the local hard drive) or did you access the content from a web server? When played locally, links are often blocked by the browser's FlashPlayer security settings.
I always upload Web-published content to a server and test then, OR publish for CD and then test.
Hi Patrick,
Michael's question would be my first question as well. You'll see information in this article about viewing locally and the security restrictions you may encounter. Further information to reinforce this, is detailed here how viewing it locally in Google Chrome has a few known issues.
You'll also want to make sure that you've followed the steps here to link to a file that exists in your Resource tab.
Thanks Michael,
Yes, I tested locally. This might be the point.
I've also got the same type of answer from Ashley.
I've some emergency works to complete and I'll test according to your recommandations.
T'll let you know.
Patrick
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for your recommandations. It makes sense and as soon as I have completed some corrections, I'll test this and let you know.
Have a nice day.
Patrick
Thanks Patrick for the update and feel free to keep us posted.
