I cannot prevent the user from clicking on base layer!
Feb 10, 2015
Hi,
there is something apparently very easy to solve in my project (developed with storyline 1) but i'm not able to understand why it doesn't work.
I have slides with base layer and some layers more (each one with its own audio). I want that the learner listen to the entire audio of each layer without passing to the following, until appears the "x" to close it.
I've selected, in the property of each layer, "prevent the user from clicking on the base layer"...but it doesn't work! Why???
I've used many times this setting, it's very simple... but now it doesn't work... no one slide of the project accepts this setting. I really don't understand where is my error.
Attached an example of some slides with this problem.
Thankyou in advance for suppporting!

it looks like you have a trigger that hides the layer if the user clicks outside of the 'rounded rectangular caption'
Thats probably what its closing the layer. Not because they're clicking on the base layer but because they are clicking outside the object on the pop up layer.
I had a quick look at the various layers in your file and none have the 'Prevent the user from clicking on the baselayer' option selected in the slide layer properties.
The 'Approf#' ones do
Yes, you are right. All the ones that I had looked at were not turned on.
Hello Ileana,
As Jackson stated, the click outside trigger is allowing these layers to close. By removing this, the layers only close with the X.
See attached file, it is updated the first slide only. Hope this helps.
Thank you!
It's strange because I see The "prevent option" turned on in all the layers... by the way... removing the "click outside" trigger, the problem is solved!
Thaks again
Glad this helped ileana!
Hi community, i hope someone can help me with this issue or has run into this issue...
i created a project and selected the checkbox for "Prevent the user from clicking on the base layer", but it seems that they can still click Next and Prev. Does anyone know if this is how the application works?
Thanks
Hi, Andrea - The Prev and Next buttons are built into the Player. They are not a part of the base layer in the slides. This is why they can be accessed within layers. Do you need to restrict your users from hitting them until the slide finishes? You may want to look at restricting your navigation.
Makes sense, thanks Christie. I will use a trigger to prevent the user from moving forward.
Happy to help, Andrea! Thanks for the update. :)
