Identification Questions

Apr 11, 2014

We are providing a course for the State of Louisiana and they require security Identifications questions asked before the course starts and they are randomly asked throughout the course and during the test. The problem we are having is, some people are putting in jibberish, forgetting what they entered or misspelling the second time. These answers aren't included in the test at the end, and there is no way that we know of to find out what they entered so we can correct what they typed. We are forced to give them a verbal test over the phone. Is there anyway to track these variables? Have their answers emailed to us when complete so we can refer to them if needed? Stored in  text file we can access? We need some way to view these answers to assist students that get stuck.

Hi there Brad and welcome to the community!

Personally, what I would do is keep the learner from moving forward if their response is incorrect. Though this may be a little more tedious for the leaner, it would ensure they're entering the correct information. For example, if the data does not match the entry, you could use variables and conditions to display a message stating they need to try again. They could then revisit the content, if any, that provides the details for the information they need to enter. When they enter correctly, they could continue through the course. This would eliminate the need to speak with them to correct any information, or the need to pull out the data they entered.

Another option, which requires your course to be hosted on an LMS, would be to manually send the value of the variables to the server.

Here's some articles that may help:

I hope this helps! Good luck on the project :)

Best,

We do prevent them from moving forward if the answer incorrect. Problem is, they enter their verification questions at the beginning of the course, some randomly pop up during the course and then again during the test. If one is wrong, they can't proceed and it times out after so many wrong answers. But they call us, saying it's not working and we have no way to verify if it's our issue, or what is more likely is they put some gibberish in as the answer, or they have a typo. If we could verify one way or they other, we could correct them or force them to start over and enter they correct answers so they can remember. Right now, we are having to give them a verbal test because we can't see to correct, or reset the variables so they can continue.

Hi Brad,

I'm not sure I'm clear on where these pop ups for identification are coming from? Are they questions you've set up within your Storyline course or are they generated by the LMS?

If they are items the user has entered into a Storyline quiz question or a text entry, what about providing a prompt when the user enters something that doesn't match the previously entered variable? I'd set the prompt up as a layer, and you could remind the user there what they previously entered if you wanted to by using the Variable reference. Here is a bit more information on using variables in your course.
