IE script error in moodle links to .swf files

Nov 25, 2013

I've developed a number of stand alone storyline slides that I've uploaded in Moodle 2.4 as an unzipped package with link to the swf file.  The slide will load and run without problem but when going to the next moodle page there's a script error - "Line 1, Char 1, Access is denied, Code 0".  I can click Yes or No 8 - 10 times before the error goes away but the same happens when I get to another page with a .swf link on it.

This doesn't happen in Chrome or Firefox and I've changed the IE settings regarding script debugging.  Any ideas?  Could it be something in the way I'm publishing?  I'm new to this and learning as I go but would like to avoid this barrier for IE users.  Thanks!

Hi Ellen and welcome to Heroes!

I haven't seen that script error before, but is there a reason you're linking to the swf file? Typically if your LMS requires that you identify a single launch file once you've uploaded your content, the file to point to is index_lms.html as you'll see described here in this article on publishing to an LMS.  I've seen some similar discussion in this thread about uploading the SWF to Moodle, so I'm not certain if they require you to load the SWF file, and if so you may want to check in with your Moodle team as well.

The reason I was linking to the .swf file?  Because Alice, the only other person in the building with Storyline, told me to?  It seemed to work everywhere but IE and since I don't use IE I was moving forward to figure it out later.  Link to the .html file!  A "publishing to the web" file was helpful, moreso than the LMS publishing page, since we're linking within a Moodle page.  I've fixed all the links and no more script errors.  Thanks Ashley.
