Image Size - matters or not?

Feb 11, 2016

Hi there,
I was wondering if the size of the images imported in Storyline matters. Let me explain a bit. Let's say that I have an image that is 500 x 1000 pixels. I can insert it in Storyline as it is and then once in Storyline I can resize it to 250x500 for instance. What I can do instead is resize this image to 250 x 500 BEFORE I insert to Storyline. Obviously, the file I would be inserting is smaller.

The bottom line is - if I have a project with 50 or more images should I spend some time and resize the images before I insert them in the project so the size of the project is reasonable?
Would anyone have an advice or a hint as to where I could find more info about this please?

Thank you in advance

B

Hi Bobby,

I wanted to point you to a really great discussion where Steve does a good job explaining how Storyline will handle images and their size inserted.

If you're concerned about overall Storyline file size, I'd recommend doing a test publish because, depending on your quality settings, the compression may cut down the file size. The higher the quality, the more likely you are to have a larger file size. The lower the quality, the lower the file size.

Storyline publishes a number of files for your project and these will vary a little, depending on the options you select for publishing, so if you're working with some file size limitations for where you're going to upload, you'll want to double check those elements.

As you can see Bobby, everyone may have a different thought on how to set this up - and my information is based less on experience within my own projects but what we've seen in files, forum threads or documentation - Phil is definitely an expert in terms of building large courses with a lot of images and more, so he's a good one to take advice from. ;)
