Images not displaying on iPad mini retina

May 22, 2014

I have built a course in Storyline and published it for web with the iPad boxes ticked. The first time I did this, a number of the images failed to display when I accessed the course through the Articulate player. A previous post in this forum suggested that the player didn't like .png files and that .jpg files would display correctly. Unfortunately this does not seem to be true as my images are still noticeable by their absence. Does anyone have a fix for this, to save me experimenting with different image types? Any and all help gratefully received.

Hi Eugenia and welcome to Heroes!

I can't think of a specific issue I've seen where the images didn't display because of the retina display - but maybe didn't display as expected. I have just the standard iPad mini, but if you'd like I'm happy to take a look at your course and see if it's more than just the retina display but something within the images (then we'll want to see the .story file and at least one of the original images).

I also found an older thread about hi-res images within Storyline and the iPad which may provide some additional insight and in another thread a user suggested a specific dpi for the images themselves.

Storyline will also compress images and videos during the publish process - and you can modify that compression prior to publishing by  changing the quality settings in the publish window and adjust this:

Thanks for the quick and helpful response, Ashley!

I am not sure if the problem was specific to the mini retina, just that that was what I was testing the content on. I don't have another iPad to test on so for now whether it would have been fine on another model will have to remain a mystery. In the end I experimented with different image file types and discovered that .tif files were visible on the iPad. I will check my resolution settings in future, too.

Hi Eugenia,

Thanks for the update - and I'm glad you were able to find a solution that worked for you. If you run into problems testing again on the iPad, please feel free to let us know here or connect with our  Support engineers.  Staff all have the capability to test the iPad set up - and there are a number of community members who may chime in to test here as well.
