Images Suddenly Disappearing from Articulate Storyline project

Oct 30, 2014

Is this issue addressed at least in Articulate Storyline Update 7 - Build 1410.2419 (10/24/2014)?

Yesterday I was working on a file and I saved it. Today, I had to update audio script, so opened the file to save as a new version to work on that. Before I could save, images and video disappeared from all the slides and all I could see was text captions.

I could see all the images in the side pane as well as story view, but not when previewed or published. I inserted all the images through Insert ---> Picture. They are either jpg or png. I used a .storytemplate for slide BG. All of them have disappeared. However, when I try to insert the same image, it is visible with the same file name in a particular slide.

I work on my local drive and I have no issues of RAM. Also, my file size is only 2.64 MB. I am afraid I may need to re-do the entire project :(

I was hoping there would be some fix for this issue and hence tried to install update 7 but in vain.

If there was a Generate Backup option similar to Captivate, I would have been saved!

Kindly help me in this regard.

Thanks

Jagan

Hi Jagan

this is from the support site - not sure if it helps you.

Articulate Storyline requires Microsoft Windows to be configured with 96 DPI (dots per inch). If Windows is using a different DPI setting, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.
Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.
Zoomed images don't work as expected.
Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for your response.

I am not sure about Microsoft Windows to be configured with 96 DPI but I am pretty sure everything was working fine till this morning. I had developed several courses since I got Articulate Storyline, never I faced this kind of issue. Moreover, I doubt if it all started when I tried to insert a Quiz slide and tried to change the font size and type of Questions and choices, but I am still not sure.

 Thanks

Oh no, Dawn! I'm sorry your images have gone missing, but a few things to look into.

First, I'd check that you're using the latest update of Storyline. You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline". Storyline 2 Update 13, Storyline 3 Update 5, or Storyline 360 Update 20 would be what you're looking for.

Next, I'd also check that files are saved locally including the images you're inserting. Working from a shared or network drive is known to cause odd behavior ultimately resulting in file corruption. Here are a few other ways to prevent that.

Lastly, you can try importing the problematic file into a new .story file to see if that resolves the behavior. The steps are outlined here for Storyline 3, but it'll be similar for other versions of Storyline.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Hey Everyone!
I just helped a co-worker out with this. In our case, the slide that was copied and pasted had an image on the layout in the Slide Master (vector image).  When previewing the single slide, it would display fine, but when previewing the slide and 2 slides prior, the slide master's image would disappear and show some funky version of a the first slide selected in the preview.

To fix the issue:
Go to the Slide Master>select the image>right click and Export>Save Picture
Save the picture as a .png this time (instead of an Vector svg).
Delete the original picture and then insert the exported picture (Insert>Picture>png file)
Close Slide master and Preview the selected slides....Viola! fixed!

Hope this helps!
