Importing Quiz Data - Asterisk in Feedback

Feb 17, 2021

This post will both share a lesson learned and ask for a suggestion to a formatting challenge.

I create quite a few assessments and really appreciate the ability to import a spreadsheet that contains the question, choices, and feedback (for incorrect responses).

Periodically, I need to create a bulleted list within the feedback.  In SL3 I was able to use the asterisk and CTL+Enter to create a bulleted effect.

I now use SL360.  I just learned, within the feedback cells, anything from the asterisk and beyond, is not imported.

I am now in the process of updated the feedback.

Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake and save themselves rework.

If anyone has another suggestion for creating a bulleted list from excel, that will import properly, I would LOVE to know about it.

Thanks!

I don't do that kind of importing, so I can't say whether these will work, but they're worth trying.  Instead of an asterisk, try one of these:

—  em dash

–  en dash

>  greater-than symbol

 -   minus sign (Note: Because Excel uses math operators, it wants to create a formula in any cell that begins with a minus sign. However, you can override that by entering a space before the minus sign.)
