Inserting a video; I can hear the audio but see nothing

Oct 10, 2014

Hello,

I'm sure there must be something I'm doing (or not doing) that is very simple. Again, first time I'm inserting a video in  Storyline. I clicked on Insert / Video and selected my MP4 file. A black box appears on the screen. The video is there because when I preview it or publish it, I can hear the audio, but see nothing, only the black box.

Thanks,

Thanks Wendy. It still does not work in Desire2Learn. I also tested it in http://tempshare.articulate.com/ and it doesn't work either.

I'm no expert but the fact that I get audio seems to me to indicate that it's not that the video is not there or cannot be played back. It seems like I'm missing a setting.

Can you remind me how to send you the files? Thank you,

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Guillermo,

You can share files here in the forums using the paperclip icon.

It sounds like it's not playing the video even in preview though? If you're not seeing it in preview, I wouldn't expect to see it in publish...but that still leaves the problem with the video. I assume the video plays as expected outside of Storyline as well? Can you confirm you're working on local project files as described here?  You may also want to see that the MP4 videos are encoded with the H.264 codec, as Storyline does support multiple bitrates and codecs, but that is the option that allows for the best results. I sometimes use a tool like Handbrake to convert the video (into an MP4) and that typically solves any odd behavior.
