Inserting web objects into storyline project...layering issues

Dec 03, 2013

I am trying to update a course from using flash so that it is ipad friendly and using swiffy to create html5 versions of my animations. They are inserting fine into storyline and playing fine. I had to get rid of the white background by playing around with code in the swiffy file, HOWEVER - they are taking the top most layer on my slides, so if I try to open menu or resources layers they are hiding behind the web object. How can I fix this? The menu/resources are in my master pages file - not in each individual slide as that would be too much work.

Also - when this course is opened using the articulate app for ipad the embeded html files are shrunken and I am able to scroll through and resize them. Any reason for this?

Hi Susan,

Our QA team is aware of an issue where player elements such as the menu or resource tab can appear behind web objects as described here.  Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround. When additional information becomes available, we'll post it here.

In regards to the elements shrinking within the iPad app, it's not something I've seen before. Are you using the most recent version of the app, and of Storyline?   Would you be able to share your .story file here with us so that we could take a look at the behavior? If you'd prefer to share it privately, you're also welcome to send it to us here.

In order to work around the issue of these objects overlapping I have decided to try using the built in menu and resources tabs for storyline - and although they still end up under the html object when placed on the right side at the top, if I put them in the side it could still work, however - now the html object isn't staying inside my stage area...

These are two images of my published version - one on ipad (the shrunken version) and the other is on safari, it also looks like this in firefox too.

unfortunately I can't send the file to you - it is a flash animation that I exported as a swiffy so I could keep the animation - I have a few other interactions that were also created in flash and exported as HTML5 - the issue is that I can't lock the position of the object - we will try going "under the hood" tomorrow with another inhouse developer! I will post on here if I still need help!

Hi Deb,

Are you using Storyline 1 or Storyline 2? The issue mentioned at the top of this discussion is for Storyline 1 and that issue is still outstanding, but we haven't seen the same behavior in Storyline 2.

If you have a file you'd like us to take a look at, we'd be happy too. Can you share here with us by using the "add attachment" button or can you send along to our Support Engineers?
