IPad cannot download content error in the Articulate Mobile Player

Jan 21, 2013

I have created storyline files and put them into my Dropbox. I have downloaded the Articulate Molbile Player on my iPad but I can't open the files. I have tried publishing and opening a number of ways. I have searched this forum and had people try to help me but still stuck. Very frustrated. Please help! When I try to open a file I get this message - Articulate Mobile Player message: Cannot Download Content. Articulate Mobile player cannot download the content because one or more files cannot be found. Learn more: You are not connected to the Internet. (I am.) One or more files were moved, deleted or not uploaded to the server.

I have copied over all the files that were published so what could I be missing? Thanks.

Hi Susanne. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

So sorry for the frustration, hopefully we can get this resolved for you soon. Unfortunately, though, I must mention that Dropbox may not be a reliable source to use as a host. It's true purpose is mostly for storage.

Are you able to share your project's .STORY file here? If so, I can publish and upload the content temporarily on my end and see if we're able to get it running. If so, we'll know it's an issue with hosting it on Dropbox. If not, we'll know to take a look at the file itself.

Thanks!

Hi Susanne,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sorry to hear you're still working with this. However, as I stated earlier, Dropbox is not the best option for hosting your content.

I'm more than happy to test the file for you, to see if it is in fact an issue with hosting it there, however. In order to do so, though, I'd need you to share the project's .STORY file.

Another option would be to try Articulate Online (the service I would use to test it on my end). There's currently a free trial, which would give you more than enough time to test the content on your iPad.

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Susanne,

No problem, I totally understand If you want to make up a test file, just save it and then attach the .story file to this post. The file you're looking for is going to have the .story extension. So, if your project's name is "TestForChristine", the file name will be "TestForChristine.story" and it will show up as a "Articulate Storyline Story" file.

To attach the file to this thread, click on the paperclip icon in your response. You'll be able to navigate to and select the file. Keep in mind, though, if the file is too large, it may not post here.

Thanks!

Thanks Susanne!

If you want to take a look at that file, published for the iPad, you can use this link: http://bit.ly/VhYWZ3

I didn't know if you were viewing this on your iPad or not, so I used the shorter link, just in case.

First, you may want to take a look at our tutorial on Publishing a Project for iPad and HTML5

You may also want to take a look at this comparison chart. This will help in determining what features of Storyline are supported in the Articulate Mobile Player for iPad.

Once you've set up your course, made sure all the content in the course is supported and you're ready to publish your course for others, you need to have a host for your content. As I mentioned earlier Articulate Online is one option. If you're working within a company, your company may already have a web server or an LMS that you can use to host the files. If not, you can try to see if you can find a free web server or LMS to host your files.

If you want more feedback on different services, your best bet would be to look around the forums and look for feedback provided by other community members. You could also start another thread over in the Building Better Courses section and ask for some input or suggestions for free or paid hosts for your content.

Let me know if you have any other questions, Susanne.

Thanks!
