iPad Story display - possible to show with no scaling?

Aug 06, 2014

Hi everyone,

My department is currently trialing Articulate as an alternative to Captivate. We are specifically looking at general usability, as well as the HTML5 publishing options in both.

I am currently having trouble getting our published Articulate story to display nicely on the iPad (using the HTML5 version, and not the Articulate Mobile Player).

The story size is 770x500px (as our modules are targeted at multiple devices/configurations). Initially, this led to the story being scaled to fill the browser window (landscape orientation). We don't wish for this to happen as it obviously pixellates and blurs the content quite significantly.

I've read that the story will scale if it is not in a 4:3 ratio; so I resized and re-published the story at 770x578px, yet the content still expands to fill the browser window (except now it is letterboxed with white on the left and right a small amount).

Captivate displays its version accurately at 770x500px, which reduces the pixellation issues (not entirely though, as it's a Retina Display).

Is there any way of having Storyline's HTML5 output not scaled on the iPad?

Hi Jared and welcome to Heroes!

There is a lot of discussion here linked at the bottom of the article regarding the "right" size for displaying on the iPad, and in addition to that you'll want to look at what you have set as the browser/player options as well and see if that is where the course is being told to scale accordingly.

Also, are you testing this as an LMS or web published version? If you're testing it within an LMS you may want to see if the LMS is also adding any additional elements and you could load your test courses to a site such as SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM content.

Hope that helps and please feel free to let us know if you need anything else!
