Is SL now working reliably again via Parallels?

Jan 14, 2019

Hi guys

I may soon be getting my hands on a MBP hence wondering if the previously mentioned issues have since been fixed.  Have been unable to find any posts or other insights since the last update a few months ago.

Definitely keen to hear what you OSX peeps have been experiencing.  All feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Simon,

I took a look at that discussion and the two folks who connected with our Support team. Both of their cases were something specific in their files and setup that caused a slow down while using Storyline (within Parallels). It doesn't appear that it was specific to Parallels and a MacBook.

I use a MacBook as my main machine, running Windows 10 and 8.1 and haven't had any trouble. Make sure you're following along with the guidelines here, and things should work well!

If you do hit any snags, please reach out here in ELH or connect with our Support Team directly!

Thanks Ashley

I did wonder if those particular issues were localised - given that most Parallels users were keen to voice how their instances of SL were running buttery smooth!

Can I assume assigning 8Gb to Parallels is sufficient to achieve the above (with a 2018 i5 or i7)?  MBP will likely have 16Gb as 32Gb will be cost-prohibitive.

Hi Simon,

Generally, about half the physical RAM can be allocated to the virtual machine (VM) and that shouldn't cause your Mac to slow down.

With Parallels, you can allocate 2 cores to your VM as well, and newer MacBook Pros are running off of i7s (either 4 course or 6 cores) so that should help the VM run smoother too!
