Is there a known bug for occasional audio probs in Record Screen?

Oct 11, 2012

I'm finding that 1 out of 5 (average) times that I record the screen, there is no audio captured. Is there a known bug for this? I'm having a hard time figuring out what it could be because I'm doing multiple recordings in one sitting and going thru the same steps each time. Any suggestions?

By chance do you have multiple possibilities on your PC for a mic input?  I sometimes forget to switch to my Blue Yeti when starting up a project after booting up Windows.  Sometimes Windows "forgets" what I chose last time if the desired mic is off at boot.

But I've not seen this yet during a recording session.  Weird.  By chance are using another program that may be grabbing the mic input?

The first time it happened I was using a usb mic and a team member's laptop. I recorded 6 short demos and the last 4 had no audio. No setting  changes were made between each recording.

The next time I recorded I decided to use my own laptop and the built in mic since these are just informal demos. I was worried about it happening again so I previewed after every recording and the 3rd recording had no audio. Every one after that was fine.

Since I can't isolate what I could be doing differently between recordings and it was on 2 different computers, I thought I'd ask.

Thanks, Gerry!

Hi Amy,

Sorry for the trouble you're having. Can you please be sure you're following some basic rules to prevent strange behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

And if your Storyline software still isn't working properly, a simple repair may fix the problem. If not, please feel free to submit a ticket to our support team for additional help.

Thanks!
