Is there a quicker way to do this?

I've created an interaction to support a strategy map for a client. 

When you click on one of the 8 top boxes the relevant supporting boxes below's state will change to reflect the colour of the box that has been clicked. 

However, what i'd like to do is when the user clicks on another box, the boxes from the previous selection return to their original state. 

I know there is a way that can do this which will involve me creating approximately a further 192 triggers telling the boxes below to change to normal state. Obviously you can imagine my enthusiasm for creating a 192 triggers and am therefore anxious to find a quick way round this. 

I've attached 3 images to help explain. 1 is the intial screen, 2 is when 1 box is clicked, 3 is when 2 boxes are clicked.
