I try to lock down all of my courses so users can't just click next or skip to the end. I wanted to show the menu for one particular course, but was surprised to see that you can just click on the last page and get to the exit course button I have (I know I could set it so all the pages need to be viewed in order to be completed, but users aren't going to realize that and it'll just create help tickets).
Is there a setting I'm not seeing to disable menu navigation, at least until after the slide has been viewed?
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you would like to create (or prevent in this case) in your course.
Have you taken a look at restricted navigation? This can be used for the menu, for the prev/next buttons, or for both. Here's some documentation on setting this up.
Let me know if that's what you're looking for or if you need some additional assistance.

exactly what i was looking for.
I don't know if I've ever seen/noticed that options button before at the bottom of the menu tab.
Glad that was able to help you, David :)
I'm still learning every day as well.
