Issue with "jump to file"

Mar 28, 2013

Bonjour,

On one of my course I have some PDF you can see when you click on a button with a trigger who contain : "Jump to URL / File when user click on button1".

It works with Firefox but not with IE and Chrome.

Do you know what to do ?

I have the latest IE an Chrome... As I can see it works with the HTML5 files but when I publish it on AOL it stays on the HTML file... I don't know what to do . . .

Thank you

Sébastien

Hi Sébastien

Have you checked the pop-up blocker settings for the other browsers (Chrome and IE)?

Also, it sounds like nothing happens at all when you click on the link for the file. Is that right, or are you seeing any errors or blank windows?

Can you share the file so I can take a look, or send it over to us for testing?

Thanks!

Christine

Hello again, Sebastien.

Your current approach requires that all of your learners have an "example.docx" file located within the \Users\Sébastien Greffett\Documents\ folder on their C: drive, and they probably don't have that.

...and even if they did, most Internet browsers will not allow hyper-linking or redirecting to a file on the local hard drive as you have done.  Three better options include:

  1. Adding resources to the player.
  2. Publishing your files to a web service (such as Amazon S3, Dropbox, and so on) and linking to them from there.
  3. I'm not sure what your "example.docx" file looks like, but taking a screenshot of the document and lightboxing it upon hover might be another effective approach.

Please let us know if you need anything else.  Thanks!
