IT department wiped profile, now previously saved Story files will not load!
Mar 24, 2017
Hi Guys,
My IT team wiped most of our story files by mistake, the back up we had did not include everything so they have had to recover a number of files and the software was also reset. When I attempt to open a small number of files I am greeted with a message saying 'this project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. it may have been created in an earlier version of storyline.
Surely using an earlier or later updated version of storyline 2 would not lead to you being unable to open a story file? Do you guys think this is more likely something that has gone wrong during the recovery of the files? Any thoughts / help would be most appreciated as Im about to embark on the awesome task of re-building a number of large modules!
thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear what you have experienced Adrian, but unfortunately, as far as I know, there are NO ideal solutions for your case. We had a similar situation couple years ago and tried every feasible solution, and none of them could recover our lost files perfectly. Eventually, we had to restart the building again. Now we keep multiple copies of authoring files in different locations. That's probably the best way to avoid tragedy happens again.
Thanks Mu Li,
Yep, I think that's the general consensus. I have already purchased a
couple of external storage devises so this cannot happen again!
Thanks again
Adrian
Adrian,
When/If you open a SL2 file in SL 360, it makes a back-up for SL2, but you can never again open that actual file back in SL2. Not ideal at all, but if you are working with SL2 and 360 that's the reason you can't open those files anymore. I've lost a lot of work because of this too.
