Jumpy motion paths

Dec 04, 2019

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I'm working on a sliding animation in SL 360 but I cannot seem to get all of the motion paths to run smoothly. When a user clicks each of the phase blocks, it's supposed to slide to the left in a straight line but for some reason there is a little jump at the end or beginning where it looks like it's not perfectly aligned. I created each layer by locking the items and duplicating so I'm not sure how the motion paths are off. I set up the motion paths by pixels and just reversed the paths on the transition layers. All of the dimensions and pixels seem correct so I cannot understand why things still seem a little off. Any advice? Here is the published version: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/bf481001-f105-468d-88d4-b3a9dbfe3917/review and I will also attach the file here as well. The published version is scene 3 final in the file. I've built this about 5 times and each time it is just slightly off. Help!

Thank you!

Christie

Hi Christie,

I am not sure if I fully understand your issue, but what I think you are referring to is the way the block speeds up at the start, moves at a steady pace in the middle and then slows down at the end, which can give the impression that it is jumping. If this is the issue, it is an easy fix.

What you need to do is to select the appropriate motion path and then go to the Path Options in the menu and select Direction (under Easing). Your motion paths are currently set to In & Out, which is the default option that produces this effect. All you need to do is to select None and your problem should be solved. If you try each of the options, you can see the difference they make and it might give you some ideas when you are doing other motion paths in the future.

If this wasn't the problem or if you have other queries, please don't hesitate to get back to me here.
