Keeping the selected state to build avatar

Jun 01, 2021

In Storyline 360, I'm working on building an interactive slide where the learner can build their own avatar/identity.  I am having problems figuring out how to keeping the state that is selected, along with continuing to build onto the avatar.  I would like the users to be able to go back and make changes to their avatar before moving onto the next slide.

I have include a .story file for reference.  I appreciate any help and advice you may have.

Thanks!!

Hi, Monica.

This is a great idea, and I am looking forward to the other suggestions our community members will give you!

My recommendation is to separate the choices (male, female, other) into slides. That way, you can have the avatar on the base slide, and the choices of skin/hair/etc., can be done on each layer.

If you don't want to separate the options into slides, I suggest tracking the changes with a variable. Once a skin color is selected, change the variable to that number.

On your next layer, you can set the state of the avatar to match the variable.

I also noticed you added the hair states to the same avatar that contains the skin color states. Since you can only have one state selected at a time, I would recommend separating those options into different objects.

I made that change for you, as an example, on your Male option:
