Layer issue: Communication between base level to layer 1 + layer 2 is different

Aug 23, 2022

Hi,

we got an issue with the "communication" of layer 2 to base level - this is what we assume ...

Is it possibe, that a hotspot has the same effect from layer 2 to the base level as it has from layer 1?

What we create is:

Base level
1. click on area outside hotspot size=> change to level "Falsch+Tipp".
2. click on hotspot => continue on timeline

layer1 : Falsch+Tip layer
1. click on area outside hotspot layer 1=> change to level "Falsch+visueller Hinweis"
2. click on hotspot => continue on timeline on base level

layer 2: "Falsch+visueller Hinweis" layer
1. click on area outside hotspot layer2 => status of feedback to "Knapp daneben."
2. click on hotspot => continue on timeline on base level + change state of feedback box "Knapp daneben"

It works, if we are on layer 1.

It doesn't work, if we are on layer 2

And: On layer 2 (when the learner is right), the timeline continues, however, the change of status of feedback to "knapp daneben" does not change.

Do you have an idea, where the issue is?

Thank you for your support!

Best regards

Wolff

Hi Wolff,

Thanks for sharing a copy of your project file. I tried to replicate the behavior on my end, but after completing the sequence, I found that the object 'knapp daneben' was correctly changed to the 'Richtig 2' state.

It looks like I may be testing your course differently compared to how you are doing it. Would you be willing to share a recording of how you are experiencing the behavior so we can take a closer look at what's happening?

For Articulate 360 subscribers, Peek 360 is the quickest way to record a screencast, and it's available for Windows and Mac. Follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Peek 360 on your computer and click New Recording.

  2. Select the application you want to record, then choose a microphone  (if you have one)  when the recording window appears.

  3. Click the red Record button and reproduce the issue.

  4. When you're finished, click Done on the recording control bar or click the Peek 360 icon in your system tray (by the clock).

  5. You can preview your recording, give it a name, and then click Upload to send it to your Articulate 360 account.

  6. Windows will notify you when it's done uploading, and a link to your screencast will automatically be copied to your clipboard.

  7. Share the link with us.

Looking forward to your response!

Wolff,

When I tested your project, I got the results you describe.

The layers have nothing on them, except the textbox and the hotspot. When you click outside the hotspot on the base layer it shows the tipp layer. When tipp is showing any click outside the hotspot shows visueller Hinweis and hides Tipp.  visueller Hinweis doesn't have a clicks outside trigger, so when you click outside the hotspot, the click falls through to the base and shows tipp. If you continue to click outside the hotspot, it toggles back and forth between the two layers. as it should.

The problem is that I believe a hotspot should catch a mouse click, but apparently the one on the visueller Hinweis layer is not. When you click there, the click falls through to the base layer, and triggers the resumption of the timeline, along with showing Tipp layer.

I deleted the Hotspot Layer 2 and recreated it, and the same thing happened. I recreated it because I think it is acting incorrectly, as if it were corrupted.

Change the properties of each layer to prevent the user from clicking on other layers, and it will work. This will certainly prevent it from toggling back and forth between the two layers. It also seems to solve the other problem, but I am suspicious of it. If it were mine, I would delete the slide, and recreate it completely from scratch. If it acts the same way, I would submit it as a support case.
