Layer Time Lines

Jul 16, 2014

I have a seek bar on the menu so the user can move though the current slide. However this seek bar only seems to affect the timeline of the base layer.

So on a layer displayed over the base which has animation (text boxes appear over time), the animation will only trigger off the layer's individual time line so skipping on the seek bar means that the animation will not be timed right as you have to wait for the actual timing of the layer.

So my question is , how can you link the seek bar to the timing of all the layers.

Hi Jacob,

You cannot "connect" the seekbar for the base layer and layers. However, you can enable a seekbar for your layers, so you can seek through the timing of that specific layer.

To do so, click on the small cogwheel or gear icon for your layer. Here, you'll want to enable the option shown below:

Now, if you want your content tied to the same timing as the base layer, it may be a good idea to show that content on one layer, or consider disabling the option to seek.

If you have any trouble with this, or any questions, please let us know.

Best,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the help however it is not having the effect that was wanted. As now when the layer is show, the seek bar only affects that layer. This means the user can go though all the content on the one layer, while the base layer plays normally then it ends and the seek bar affects only the base layer again.

We have to have it on multiple layers as the plan is to make translated text and the base layer has the images and then hte other layers have the text in different languages, I tried different slides for the content but this just made all the slides visible in the menu so you would see the german slides while on the english slides.

Removing the seek bar would fix it how ever I am not aloud as the presentations have to be "standardized" (apparently) do you have any other ideas.

Thanks Jacob

Hi Jacob,

There's a fairly long thread that's somewhat similar to what you're trying to accomplish (syncing layer content with a base layer).

The suggestions here might make this work a little more along the lines of what you'd like to accomplish in your project:

Syncing audio problem on StoryLine layers

In the meantime, perhaps some of our talented community members can provide some additional suggestions for you.

Best,

Christine
