Layers not showing

I am playing with the program's trial version to find out whether it should be the tool for my next project.
And I have this probably silly problem. The created layer does not show in the preview nor in the published
output. The built looks like this:
and the preview looks like this:
I would be very grateful, if somebody could give me the rescuing advice.

Hi Ruediger,
Welcome to Heroes. A wonderful question! You have to set a trigger in the base slide that calls the layer. Here is a tutorial with links to other tutorials dealing with layers to the right.

To show layers, you need to "trigger" their appearance.
For example, on the base layer you may add a trigger that says "show layer>untitled layer 1>when timeline starts"
