I am trying to link some buttons to some documents. Is there a way I can link to either a document or a document in the resources tab of the player? I need to be able to click on a button and the link open up a more detailed document.
Thanks for this but I still have an issue. I can crete links to websites using hyperlinks but it seems when I publish the project, my links to docuemnst do not work. The project thinks there is a link (hand appears) but when I click nothing happens. Do you know if this is a bug or do I need to save my documents in a specific place on my computer?
I am trying the resourcses storage to see if I have the same problem

Need some tips on the best way to attach a PDF resource to a Storyline course if I am not using the player. I don't want to use an internet link because the client doesn't have server space for this.
I was wondering if a local web object might work. Has anyone tried this or have words of advice????
Do you mean you don't want to show the Resources tab but instead want to access attached PDF's with objects and hyperlinks within the slide? You can embed PDF's using the attach document feature (which would typically show in the resources tab) and not show the resources tab. This way the PDF's will attach and will export with your project.
Once that's done, you can use a hyperlink trigger to open the relative location of the PDF using the Jump to URL / File trigger. In the File field, type this in, substituting your pdf filename:
story_content/external_files/yourPDF_file.pdf
Since the resource is attached, you can reference the file within the course structure. To test this, you'll either need to upload to a server or publish to CD to get around the Flash Player security issues.
Couple of tricks to use when you trigger the PDF open, you can jump directly to a page number or bookmark within your PDF like this:

Good Afternoon, Jackie.
Here is a tutorial on adding hyperlinks, and here is a tutorial on attaching resources to the player.
Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks!

These links will really only work if you upload to the internet or publish to CD to test.
There will also be problems if you link to office documents and use IE to access the links, always best to link to PDFs
These were really helpful and thank a lot - problem sorted )

Thanks for that info.
The target device for this project is iPad/html5. Will the PDF open in a new browser window? I will give it a test. Thanks!
Ah, the iPad won't open since the structure doesn't orient. The HTML5 might though.
Just tested. Works on HTML5 (Chrome on desktop).
