I have a quick question concerning the Identifier field in the LMS Course Information section of the Reporting and Tracking Options screen when you publish in Storyline 2. What would happen if this identifier is not unique? Does it make a difference. We are using SCORM 2004, 3rd Edition.
Hi Richard - the Identifier field is a unique string of characters assigned by Storyline. Your LMS uses it to identify your content. If you're republishing a course that's already in your LMS, don't change the value in this field. I'd recommend that unless you have specific needs that you keep the assigned Storyline default versus optionally changing it per file you publish.
Well, actually, we have a person that copies their courses to a new name and then changes the pertinent content. I would assume, that the Identifier is copied also. So we would then have two courses (or more) that have the same Identifier. Would that be a problem?
Hi there, Richard! Spot on -- We've had reports of some LMSs not handling the same identifier for more than one content item, with consequences like rejecting the upload, or overwriting an existing content item. The takeaway: Each course should have a globally unique identifier.
To help with your workflow, opening an existing file and choosing Save As to create a new version will generate a new identifier for the duplicate file. Also, you can open a new project and choose to import slides from the original. This way, your courses will be entirely unique, and you'll avoid the potential for LMS issues.

Hope that helps.
