LMS incompatibility Storyline 3

Oct 05, 2020

Hello,

I am having trouble uploading a module created from Storyline 3 into the LMS. The preview in the software works but when trying to upload the module, the attached error messages appaear.

Can you please help me to identify the cause ?

Regards,

Hi, Marie,

I don't have experience uploading into an LMS. However, based on your attached images, it appears you published your course so it uses Flash (that is, it includes .swf files). As of December, 2020, Flash will no longer be supported. And it's already been disabled in many browsers and other software. So one thing you could try is to publish your course for HTML5 only.

Here's an article about the end of Flash: https://community.articulate.com/articles/how-the-end-of-flash-will-impact-your-authoring-experience

Also, be sure to follow the LMS instructions for what to upload. For example, I know that some require the published contents to be uploaded within a .zip package.

Good luck!

Hi Marie,

I agree with Judy that it looks like you're publishing to Flash. I would highly recommend using HTML5 only since, as Judy says, Flash is soon retiring.

I would also ask what settings you're using for publishing to LMS and whether you have clicked the button to publish to zip after it publishes the output? Most LMSs require a SCORM zip for the project to work correctly and having Storyline generate this zip from the published files is the most efficient and fool-proof way to get it done. This article might help a bit too:

I also highly recommend signing up for a free account at SCORM Cloud as well. This way you can upload your zip to SCORM Cloud first to see if it meets the proper specifications for a SCORM package. If it doesn't work in SCORM Cloud then something about how you're publishing or zipping isn't quite right for the LMS.

You will also want to connect with your LMS provider for any specific settings they might require for publishing (e.g. choosing complete/incomplete vs pass/fail is a common one... regardless of whether your project has a quiz or not, some LMSs only track Complete/Incomplete).

Finally, if the above isn't enough to solve the issue, then you might try posting a screenshot of your publishing settings here so we can get a better look.

Good luck!
