LMS publish tracking options

Aug 01, 2012

If I go into Reporting and Tracking from the output options and change the tracking tab to either the number of slides or quiz results, shouldn't that also change the tracking value shown under the properties section?

If I do it the other way and change it by clicking the link next to Tracking in the properties section it does change it in the reporting and tracking section under output options.

Hi R Rothrock:

In StoryLine, if you set the tracking to number of pages, this will trigger the "completed" status based on number of slides viewed by  the learner. i.e. you set 30 of 40 slides in the track number of slides viewed, SL will send a completed status to the LMS if 30 slides are viewed by the learner. This is in conjunction with Completed/Incomplete status set in teh Reporting tab and applies to all SCORM(any addition) and AICC published courses.

If you track by score, you will have the above status scenario, and also send the LMS a score.

What this means: The tracking value is based on slides, the scoring value is a separate value.

Thanks Dennis. I understand that. But it seems there are two places to set tracking. One under the Properties section and one inside the LMS Reporting and Tracking button. And at times they do not agree.

Lets say I come into publish for LMS. Under properties it shows Slides viewed (74 of 74). I click the Reporting and Tracking button under Output Options and go to the Tracking tab. I change the option to Track using quiz result. I click okay. The properties still show Slides viewed.

If I click the Slides viewed link it takes me directly to the tracking tab and shows my selection of Track using quiz result.

I think this is a bug.

Hi R Rothrock:

I understand your concerns , however, if you isolate the 2 functions; 1. The function of completing a course, and ; 2. the function of passing an exam, it should become more clear why you would continue to see the status that is against the course.

I can set a Pass/Fail exam status, and still send the LMS completed course status. This is the standard way to report to an LMS.

The properties area is displaying the course status for the LMS to understand the course content has been completed. This must happen no matter what you select on in the sub page.
