I am brand new to storyline and I can't seem to figure out how to do what I am envisioning. What I want to do is play a video (a screencast), and as the video plays I want to have objects (arrows pointing to things) and text popping up (explaining what to do where) and disappearing as the video plays. Basically I want to layer text and objects to pop up and disappear in time with what is happening in the video. Do I do this with layers? I thought so but I am finding it to be hard to tell the layer (containing text and or an object) when to appear during the video and when to disappear. Help!
Also understand that the timing will be off if the user is allowed to click on the video (which stops it) or move the seekbar, or manipulate the progress of the video in any way.
create a shape and overlay it on the video - set to any colour fill with 100% transparency - then the user can see the video but can't interact with it. Have it on the timeline above your video.

Create an object, and set its timing either by
1) sliding its left end (appear time) and right end (disappear time) on the slide timeline, or
2) right-click the object on the slide timeline, choose timing, and set the beginning time and duration.
Two things to be aware of: You can't change the duration of an object if it is set to show until end of slide, which is the default.
Objects placed over a video will change positions if the user is allowed to change the window size.
The object will be invisible until the timeline reaches it, and will disappear after the timeline passes it.
Thanks, that worked!

How do I turn off user's ability to stop the video so this doesn't happen? I see what you mean.
