Making objects appear in sequence by clicking?

Jul 01, 2022

Hi,

I am trying to make an Articulate lesson in which the user navigates a comic in the following manner...

1.) The user clicks the "next" button.
2.) An image appears.
3.) The user clicks the "next" button a second time.
4.) A word bubble with text appears.

And so on and so forth. I have attempted to do this using States but both my image and my word bubble appear at once after the first click. Should I be using something other than States to do this? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi, New Articulate User.

Thank you for reaching out!

When you assign different triggers to your buttons, they will all execute when the button is clicked, which is what you're experiencing.

One suggestion is to use layers instead, where each click of the button (which will look like the same button but is actually a duplicate one on a layer) will show the next layer. See below:

It's important to set the layer properties to show other layers, but hide the base one:

I hope this helps!

Hi Murari,

Thanks for reaching out; and that's a great question! To achieve this, I recommend using 'When the timeline ends' triggers to show the next layer.

Here's a peek into a sample project using these triggers:

I also attached the sample Storyline project file so you can look at it more closely.

Let me know if you have other questions, and I'll be more than happy to assist further!
