Hi, I'm using a Matching Drag and Drop in Storyline, and would like to change the pre-set blue highlight that appears when a mouse hovers over a drag-able item. See attached screenshot.
I've changed every blue I could find in the player colors to no avail.
I can honestly say I've never tried to change this hover color before. Who knows, maybe I've been happy with the blue?
However, I did find something that may help you out. Under colors, click on "Create New Theme Colors". It looks like the color tied to this is the "Control 1" color.
So, if you change this color to purple, it'll look like this:
Hopefully this will work for you, as well. If you need me to show you how to do this in a screencast, just let me know!
Good one Christine. And, to add a little more, Laura, you can edit the Control 1 color if you like.
If you working with a default color scheme, select create new in the drop-down. The "new" one starts out the same as the one that's currently selected.
If you're working with a custom one, just right-click and select edit.
Thanks to both of you - heading on over to Evernote to make myself a note
Hi Christine and Rebecca - Thanks for your quick responses! Today may be an off day, but I'm having a hard time finding "Control 1." I'm in Storyline (are you in quizmaker?), and below is a screenshot of what I'm seeing. Any tips on where to find Control 1?
Sorry, you mentioned that you had changed the colors earlier, I made the assumption you knew where the options were. I apologize, totally my fault!
No, this setting is in Storyline, not Quizmaker. From your screenshot, though, I can see you're in the Player Properties, that's not actually where you'll want to make this change.
First, you'll want to be in Slide View. Open the slide that contains the Matching Drag and Drop quiz. From here, click on "Design".
Then, you'll see a new window. Here, you'll be able to change the color for the option "Control 1", it'll be the third option from the bottom:
Hi all, This post saved me from tearing my hair out a few months ago. I'm finding that it doesn't do the trick for the matching drop down questions. I still get a turquoise blue even when I change control 1. I've changed almost everything and can't get rid of the blue. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Hi Heather! I just verified that the directions that Christine shared above are valid and was able to do this on my end. One thing she did not mention is 'Save'. Did you save once you changed your color? If you can share your file here, I'd be happy to take a look.
Is it also possible to change the base colors of these boxes? Like if I use a background image and the default box color is gray, it wouldn't stand out. I need help on how to achieve this task.
By "base color" and because you mentioned the gray, I'm assuming you mean a different fill color. I don't believe that's possible, but you can make these changes that may help a little...although the change is only made to the left side.
anyway, if you click inside the quiz and make sure the "choice" is selected, the Drawing group on the Home tab becomes active. The purple glow was done by clicking the Shape Effects drop-down and choosing glow and then the desired glow color
The green outline was done by clicking the Shape Outline drop-down and then selecting the desired color
The red background was done by selecting the Quick Styles drop-down and clicking on the desired color.
This seems to be a popular request (to change the fill color) so you might want to submit a feature request!
I'm sorry, but it seems like I still can't get this to work with mine. Even after changing Control 1 and saving, its still showing up as the default color. I've tried saving the new color, saving the project, closing the project, reopening the project, and still no change. Here's what I'm looking at. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
I have the same problem Jimmy does, but maybe that's because I'm working on a matching drop-down question, not a matching drag-and-drop question. On matching drop-down, that highlighting color doesn't seem to be changeable.
Hello, I'm using Storyline 2. I followed the same steps as Jimmy and the Control 1 color is still showing Aqua Blue even though I edited the Custom Color Theme, saved it, and applied to all slides.
Hi Grace! If you are doing a matching drop down quiz, as Jimmy's picture indicates above, the hover color is controlled by Custom 2 in Storyline 2. Be sure that you are saving the Theme Set.
Hello, I'm facing the same problem with the Aqua Blue colour. I'm using a Matching Drag and Drop template and although I have changed and applied custom theme colours, I still see the Aqua Blue instead of my chosen colour. Any ideas please?
Hi Peter! In custom theme colors, Custom 2 should do the trick.
If you're viewing the HTML5 version, we're finding that the Custom 2 color isn't shown correctly. This also happens in Storyline 360 Preview mode, since Storyline 360 previews with HTML5. If you publish with Flash only/Flash first, you'll see the correct hover color there.
I hope that helps clear things up, and I'll pop back in here to share any updates I get on the HTML5 issue!
I have some great news!We just released another update for Storyline 360, and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.
This update fixes the issue where the hover color for drag items and drop-down questions was always blue in HTML5 output, even if you customized it in your theme colors.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
I'm running into the same issue. I've changed the Custom 1 and Custom 2 colors but it still displays as the aqua blue color in the preview. Is this user error or has this not been fixed?
Sorry to hear you're running into the same issue! I just checked this in the latest versions of Storyline 360 and Storyline 3, and can confirm using Custom 2 will change the color of the drag items.
Can you check to ensure you're on the latest versions? You can do this by going to the Help tab and clicking About Storyline. If you're still running into this and confirmed you're on the latest update, connect with a support engineer, and they'll help you troubleshoot the error.

Hi Laura,
You're very welcome! I should've given you that information earlier, but I'm glad it helped in the end
Good luck with your project and have a great day!

Jimmy - Are you sure you've selected the newly created color scheme for your project? I imagine you have, but it's worth a double check

I have the same problem Jimmy does, but maybe that's because I'm working on a matching drop-down question, not a matching drag-and-drop question. On matching drop-down, that highlighting color doesn't seem to be changeable.

Thanks Leslie! In my haste, I fixated on Control 1 and missed Custom 2. I was able to edit, save, and apply my updated Color Theme.
Sounds great Grace. Glad that was able to assist you. Thanks for popping in with an update :)

This seems to not be fixed yet for SL3--can you confirm? I checked and there are no updates available. Thank you.
That's right, Lisa. We're targeting to release a fix for the same bug in the next update of Storyline 3! Thanks for checking in. 😊
I'm running into the same issue. I've changed the Custom 1 and Custom 2 colors but it still displays as the aqua blue color in the preview. Is this user error or has this not been fixed?
