MP4 files used in Storyline 2

Dec 28, 2017

I am developing a course that will have an MP$ video file as part of the course. I cannot get the video linked into the course. A message box appears saying that the file is not acceptable. What do I need to do to resolve this?

I have a slide in the course which is for video. We have the file on our intranet server. When I try to Insert the file, or copy and paste the link I get the same message:

"YAVAPAI.mp4" does not appear to be a supported video format.
Please select a video from one of the supported formats.

I can open the video file myself going directly to the server we have it stored on using the same address and the video opens and plays. I need the video to open when a student is in the course and when the video ends gracefully have it transition back into the course.

I just tried the Web Object option. I get a message that it needs a web address even though I pasted the address into the box on the Insert Web Object dialogue box. I am going to get my IT guys involved in this today. We might have an addressing issue to resolve. Stay in touch.

This is the address of the video file located on one of our intranet servers that I am trying to link into a class I am developing.

I created a new course to test establishing a link between the Articulate slide and the video file.

This is the link I entered to create the trigger:
\\yganas01\ydrive\training\media\YAVAPAI.mp4

The trigger does get to the Internet Explorer but has a HTTP 404 error.
This is the address appearing in the Browser. Besides the http: all the backslashes changed to forward slashes. What's up with that?
http://ygamoodle/yganas01/ydrive/training/media/YAVAPAI.mp4

I checked the Properties of the video file. The File Name is YAVAPAI.mp4 and the Item Type is MP4 Video. Is this naming correct for Storyline?

We have no restrictions on the file. Anyone who can get to the server it resides on can open the file. It plays in Windows Media with no problems.

Hi Ralph,

Are you able to download the file and insert it directly into your Storyline course? I know of an issue reported to our QA team in Storyline 2 where a double forward slash "//" becomes single forward slash "/" in Jump to URL/File trigger. That's still an open issue with the team in Storyline 2, and we continue to keep an eye on it to evaluate how many customers are impacted and what impact it has on courses.

I can't remember which iteration it was but I did manage to load the file into the class but that really is not acceptable because the compressed file was 10.3gb still. That size file is too large for the LMS which has a 5mb limit.

Editing the video file to get it smaller would be pointless because to get it under 5mb would require eliminating almost everything from the file.

I am still stuck.
