MP4 videos in HTML5 on tablets initially show up black.

Apr 01, 2015

I have a course with white backgrounds that has avatar MP4 videos with white backgrounds. The HTML5 output looks fine on desktops and laptops. However, when the course is viewed on tablets (iPads and Android tablets, Chrome or Safari) the space where the avatar video is will initially be black.

How do I get them not to do this?

Hi Timothy,

First, you'll want to confirm that on the iPad you're using Safari and on the Android you're using Chrome per the system requirements here.

Also, does the video play properly or just not at all? Have you looked at changing the posterframe to show an image there instead? You can right-click the placeholder for the video and select Set Poster Frame, then browse to an image file to use as your placeholder image.
