Multiple Choice quiz w/ several questions on a single slide? Is this possible?

Jul 22, 2015

Hi there,

I'm trying to put together a training module that includes a series of short multiple choice/true-false questions at the end of each section. What I'd like to do seems like it should be absurdly easy, but I can't wrap my head around how to make it work...

We describe a specific scenario, then ask a couple of questions based on that scenario. There are only 3-4 questions per quiz, so I'd like to have them all appear on the same page --- the questions aren't very long, and there are no pictures or media associated with the questions, so it looks silly to have a single question per page.
I also don't care about tracking the results or grading the quizzes at the end. What I'd like is a simple setup where if you select the incorrect radio button, the quiz lets you know that you're wrong. In order for you to progress to the next section of the module, you just need to have all of the answers correct. There's no need to submit or track any of the answers.

In short, I'd like to structure each page like this:

SCENARIO#1
BlahblahblahblahblahblahBlahblahblahblahblahblahBlahblahblahblahblahblah

Q1 - In this scenario, who is the XYZ?
A) Blah
B) Blaah
C) Blaaah
D) Blaaaah

Q2 - Where can you find XYZ?
A) Blah
B) Blaah
C) Blaaah
D) Blaaaah

Q3 - The ABCD is red in colour.
A) True
B) False

Q4 - XYZ should always wear pants.
A) True
B) False

If they select the wrong answer, a red X or something pops up next to the answer; if they select the correct answer, a green check mark shows up. Once all 4 questions are correct, a "Continue" button appears, and they move on to the next section.

I've been poking around, and it looks like the "multiple questions on a single slide" thing is a pretty common concern... Everybody points to the same video (How to Evaluate Multiple Fill-in-the-Blanks on the Same Slide), but this isn't really what I'd like to do; it seems unnecessarily complex for my needs.
I kind of understand the basic method of how it might work if I were to build it from scratch (markers that change state depending on whether or not the answer is correct, a Continue button that appears if all 4 answer states are "correct"), but have no idea how to implement clickable radio buttons for each possible answer. Can anyone help with a tutorial video of some kind? It seems like something this basic should be built right into Storyline, but as near as I can tell, Articulate hasn't quite figured that out yet? Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Hi Jeff

if you're not tracking results it's easy to do.

set up your first set of multiple choice using the Insert > Controls > radio buttons and then convert the radio buttons to a button set  by selecting the buttons then right click > button set - this means that only one of the answers can be selected at any one time.

you could hide your other questions and only reveal them when the previous one is answered. Depending on how much information you may want to put each question on a layer that is called when the previous one is completed.
