Multiple layers and triggers

I have added multiple layers and triggers to my project.  I have the base layer with 5 layers; of those 5 layers, the third layer also has 3 more layers.  I have the triggers set to disable the next layer button, when the previous layer button is "visited".  These all work, until I get to the third layer.  When the first button is click and changed to a "visited" state - it also pulls up the layers (3 more).  But when click the final button to bring me back to the third layer, the button is no longer "visited" and won't allow the next button to become "normal" and move onto the next layer.  I have wracked my brain and just can't get it to work.  Any suggestions?
