Multiple Storyline Update 5 issues

Feb 03, 2014

Hello,

I have recently upgraded and started working with Update 5 however there are several problems I am now experiencing:

- My SCORM 1.2 course now runs slower when viewed on an ipad plus it also crashes at the end of each module.

- I created an AICC course some time ago that has been running on our LMS. I have recently updated the course and exported it using Update 5. When I try to overwrite the course on our LMS with the new version of the course, it no longer functions correctly, as there are several points in the course where the navigation behaves irrationally and makes it impossible for the user to advance. I have never experienced this problem before, and have always been able to update Storyline courses on our LMS and our clients LMS without any issues.

Can you please advise me why this is and when Storyline will be putting out an update to fix the bugs that it has created with Update 5? It is very frustrating when I  am sending out e-learning to clients when I have no confidence that the course will function as intended.

Also is it possible for me to downgrade to the previous update of Storyline?

Thanks,

Rob,

I'm going to add one, but want to see if anyone else is noticing it.

HTML5 Audio not working in mobile Safari.  I've got IOS7 on my ipad and the audio won't play, but it does work in Dolphin and most desktop browsers I've tested - IE, FF, Chrome.

Still testing out a few things, but just curious if anyone else has run into this.

Hi guys,

@Rob:

Without a little more information or seeing the project, it's difficult to confirm that this is specific to the update.

Have you tested the course outside of the LMS? If not, could you try testing your course in SCORM Cloud?

Since you're using AICC content please take a look at the article below for testing information:

Articulate Support - How to Test AICC Content in SCORMCloud

Does the course seem to run slowly/crash and have issues with navigation in SCORM Cloud as well? If so, are you able to post the .STORY file for the project here? I'd be happy to take a look and see if the issues are related to anything we're currently investigating.

@Bill:

Have you tried Flash output for this project? Does the audio play through Articulate Mobile Player? I know you're wanting to use HTML5, just want to confirm that this is only happening in HTML5.

Also - what type of audio is this? Is it on the base slide, layer, etc? Are there multiple audio files in the slide, etc.?

If you could share the project file, I'd be happy to take a look.

Thanks!

Chris Weston

We are having having similar crashing issues with our SCORM 1.2 course running in our LMS on Safari, iPad iOS 7.0.4

Since we have updated to Storyline 5 our courses crash out at random times which never happened in the version 4 update.

When running our course I have had to exit and re-enter for it to keep bookmarking my progress, but resuming near the end of the course it has not tracked that I have viewed the first few sections of content. So exiting on the final page of the course has not correctly tracked the amount of pages viewed to pass as complete.

We will conduct some further testing on SCORM cloud today to see if this happens there.

I have submitted a support case with our story file but any feedback on this issue or if anyone else could shed any light on this would be a great help.

Hey guys,

As this seems to be the thread for reporting issues occurring since update 5 I thought I'd chime in...

Since updating (possibly on Friday or Monday morning) I have experienced at least 6 storyline crashes whilst working on my pc and the programme has refused to close - even when ending the process entirely via Task manager  which has led to a lot of lost work and lost time as I've had to restart my PC to resolve the issues.

Hi All,

Since updating SL I've noticed that it keeps putting states on things i do not want states on. For example I have an item on screen with several custom states and an item which previously had no states. Now both items have the custom states.

This is getting really confusing especially with complex interaction as the state names have been duplicated.

Has anyone else had this?

Hi G and Harri,

First off, my apologies Harri for missing this post in February!

I took a look at your file, and after playing around with it, I think I've figured out what is happening.

If you duplicate the state, (Normal to Custom) and make changes to the Normal state, it'll change the custom state too assuming they're still a duplicate of one another. If you change the custom state first, and then make changes to the normal state - those changes are then isolated within the Normal state as expected. Any duplication of a new, customized state doesn't have the same behavior.

Hi everybody.

Here we are experiencing the following problem when publishing to scorm 1.2 after update 5:

if you exit the course and resume it without completing the final assessment, the scorm passes the status "failed" to LMS and you cannot resume, but you are forced to start everyting again. Sometimes a grey screen appears and everything is blocked. This issue should have been resolved specifically by this update, on the contrary it seems like things are going worse.

Visualizazion on the html5 version on ipad is not fitting anymore to browser window (if chosen), while before installing the update, it did.

Hi Zio,

In regards to the issues you're dealing with in regards to the tracking issue, are you referring to this fix:

There is still a known issue documented here connected to how the course resumes with multiple results slides.  If you're still experiencing the first behavior mentioned on a course published with Update 5 and tested at SCORM Cloud, we'd want to take a look at this. You're welcome to share it here with us, connect with our Support engineers directly, or I can send you directions on how to share with me privately.

In regards to how the course fits on the iPad, there is a known issue right now where courses viewed in the HTML5 output in mobile safari within an LMS or website that displays the content in an iFrame are not scaling correctly. I know our team is looking into it, and since each LMS player is different it's also worth checking in with your LMS team to see if there is a way to allow it to open outside the iFrame.

That part is now ok (with a lot of manual work).

However, I still encounter 'change state' problems during E-Learning modules.

What's the situation:

  • We use identical thin clients at our offices.
  • User X goes through all modules without any problems. (85%)
  • User Y goes through the same modules but with 'change state' issues. Because of this, the particpant cannot continue. (15%)
  • The problems occur at different modules and/or slides. There are no patterns in the problems.
  • When I login as LMS admin (via my thin client), I can just continue their E-Learning module and the 'change states' do work.

What could be the issue, as the thin clients are identical and all running on the same server?

Hi Ashley,

the "passed/failed" wrong status seems to occurs now, after the last update, while strangely with the previous update version it works correctly. We are doing some side-to-side test with 2 scorms that are published respectively on a "updated 5" machine and on a "updated 3" machine to see the differences.

We are using just one result slide.

I tried also to apply the fix suggested by Justin in this thread http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/26075/148053.aspx#148053 but it "crashed" strangely the course after resuming.

Let me know if i can share the .story file with you privately, thank you.

Hi Geert,

I'm not sure I understand what "change state" issue you're experiencing? In my previous answer, it was in regards to the file being edited and duplicated states not working correctly - so it was impacting everyone.

If everyone's set up is truly the same, you may want to look at how they're accessing the course, such as resuming it and maybe restarting the course instead of picking up where they left off?

Zio,

I'll send you directions on how to share the file with me directly.
