My Spending Calculator on a Mobile

Oct 20, 2022

Hi everyone

I would love some feedback on my spending calculator please. It works great on a desktop but when it is used on a mobile, it is too responsive to scrolling and is frustrating to use.

I can put in the numbers fine, but when I want to move on it is too big on the screen and you end up scrolling everywhere.

I love the idea of using Storyline for this but need to make sure it is easy for people to use on all devices.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It is sitting in Storyline Review Spending Saving Calculatorv2 | Review 360 (articulate.com)

Cheers

Hi Kim, I don't think Storyline is optimised for mobile due to the way it "scales" content (basically shrinking or enlarging) based on screen size. When you start looking at content on smaller devices it is way too small for content where the design has been optimised for desktop. I'm guessing that is what has happened in this instance. The content has been designed for larger devices, therefore when shrunk down it isn't a great experience.

There isn't much that could be done in this instance.

I would recommend previewing the content outside of the Review360 site though, as review360 add more user interface when previewing on mobile. This is the direct link to the same content: https://articulateusercontent.com/review/items/OjOj8MODd_XE-GuM/story.html. It should scale better when viewed outside of the content of the Review360 site on mobile.

Hi Sam

Thanks for that feedback that was good. It turns out that it was Review360 that was making it difficult to see on a mobile, so much better with the direct link.

Can you please tell me how I get the direct link instead of using the review link? This will be the link I load to my website so would love to know where to find this.

Cheers

Hi Kim, no problem.

In order to get the direct link that is used by the review link, you need to first load the review link, and then when the page has fully loaded, hit F12 on your keyboard, select the Elements tab, and then search for "story.html" in the code. You will then see the direct link to the content.

Warning: This is not officially supported by Articulate, and so I would not rely on the direct link for anything other than testing, as Articulate could change the way it functions in future. It's just a back door to previewing without the review user interface getting in the way.
