My try scene video fell on 2 of my slides

Mar 08, 2017

Hi there,

My first post.  I am creating a try video using screen capture on multiple slides.  This includes hotspots that move the user to the next slide.  2 of my slides fell to a lower position on the slide; and, I am not sure how to get them back in line with the rest of the slides.  One of them is now off of its hotspot (which is an easy fix if I move the hotspot down to the new video location).  I recently resized the whole file.  I did try Action Find Tuning to see if that would correct the issue but no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Ariff! Welcome to the community. :)

Here are two things I'd try, and hopefully at least one of them will get you sorted out:

  1. Click Insert > Record Screen > Select the "in use" screen recording. From there, insert the slides as "Step by step: View mode steps" into a new scene. Then, replace the misaligned slides in the original scene with the new slides in the new scene.
  2. Open a new Storyline file, and set your desired Story Size. Then, import the slides from the original file into the new file.

Give those options a try, and let me know how you make out!

Thanks Alyssa.  I did have a previous version that allowed me to copy the 2 slides over.  There were only a few changes that needed to be made from the previous version.  One of the slides did fall down, again (basically moved to a lower position on the stage for some unknown reason.....perhaps a ghost?!)  I then quickly locked the recordings (so far so good).

That's so strange! I'm not sure I've ever come across that issue in the forums before, so I'd be interested in seeing a screencast of it. It sounds like you were able to make it work by locking the recording, but if you'd like us to take a closer look, shoot us a screencast of what you're seeing, and we'll try to replicate it on our end. Otherwise, good luck on the rest of your project, and let us know if you encounter any more road blocks along the way!

Thanks for the quick responses Alyssa.

Here is a copy of the file.  You will notice I am on v6.  Please ignore the audio.  The audio will be rerecorded once I have all of the labs completed.  Slide 1-14 is the one that just fell.  1-2 is the one that used to fall before but has not fallen since I locked the screen recording.

I suspect that when I originally went from my original recording on 1 slide to my try multiple slide split, the way slide 1-14 was originally recorded was strange (started at a -1 position).  I wonder if this may be contributing to the issue.  If you find out, please let me know.  I am also open to any other suggestions.

Thanks again,

Ariff

Thanks for sharing your file here, Ariff. I can see that your screen recordings are aligned to the top of the slide, and the ones that "fell" are now in the middle of the slide. The default alignment for screen recordings is actually to the middle of the slide. In fact, I inserted a new scene in your file, and re-imported the Try Mode steps, and the screen recordings defaulted to middle alignment.  Can you tell me how you aligned the videos to the top?

I have no idea.  It was never a conscience decision.  When I had originally inserted it to our LMS (Mindflash) it was displaying way too big.  I can only assume that when I resized it to a 4 x 3 configuration, it moved to the top but I am not sure.

Also, I just notice that some of the screen captures are not playing correctly 1-21 to 1-22.  Not sure what is going on there, either.  I am telling you, ....ghosts...:)

Yes, that is exactly how it looks on my end.  And it is correct (I just confirmed it using the demo software).

Getting back to the fallen slide, I went back and just screen captured that one aspect (resetting the timeline from the fallen slide of 1-14).  The screen capture recorded the movement of the timeline just fine but for some reason, it did not record the movement of the hosts and VMs which is most important.  I eventually just recorded it in Camtasia and added it to the slide.  Here is a copy of the MP4 to show you what it should look like (you will notice it does not look like that in the file I sent you).  Now I am tempted to use Camtasia to do the recordings (sorry but I am a bit pressed for time).  If you ever figure out what caused the slide slippage (yes, that is what I am calling it), please let me know.  Also, if you are able to identify anything that may have done wrong that I can correct relating to the screen capture, please let me know.

Thanks again for helping me along (appreciate all of your efforts)

Hey Ariff,

I'd like to share all of this with our Support Engineers and have them weigh in on the "falling screen recording" issue you're seeing. I've opened a support case on your behalf (01032932), and they'll be in contact with you shortly.

I completely understand that you're in a time crunch, and I'm glad you were able to find a workaround that will suffice until we get this sorted out. I'll keep tabs on your case and share updates here as they're available!
