Mystery trigger "Jump to next slide when timeline on this slide starts"
Jul 19, 2021
My colleague and I have recently come across a strange bug (separate SL modules). On a project I am working on of about 30 slides, on two of the slide a mystery trigger has appeared "Jump to next slide when timeline on this slide starts".
This trigger doesn't exist on the slide or any layers or on the Master slide. It only can be seen by selecting one of the small arrows that are displayed between slides. The trigger cannot be edited (deleted or changed) other than to add an if statement. You'll see this above where I added an arbitrary if statement on a variable called "bugfix" which will never be true, to stop the trigger executing.
I guess I'm just looking to see if Articulate are aware of this bug, and if anybody else has experienced it.

Hi, Sam,
I've never seen anything like that (and I hope I never do). I suggest you report it directly to the Articulate staff. You can do that here:

Isn't life as an unwitting, uncompensated, beta tester awesome? 😁
It is a known issue. A hidden trigger is being added when you duplicate slides.
To fix (until Articulate release the fix) in slide view or slide sorter hover over the red arrows for the timeline start triggers right click and choose disconnect
Hi Sam,
Phil is correct, this is an issue we are aware of. I'm glad he was able to share the temporary solution to remove these triggers.
Did you import or duplicate your slides? I'd be happy to attach this conversation to our report of the issue when confirmed.
This gave me a laugh
Hi Phil, thanks for the fix. It worked as explained.
For anyone following along:
In Update 54 (Build 3.54.25674.0), we fixed a couple of bugs related to a hidden trigger getting added to slides.
Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app! If you run into any issues, please don't hesitate to ask for help in this discussion or a support case.
I'm still having this problem when creating a question bank... Instead of inserting a new question I duplicate and change them. This results in a hidden trigger as above. There are no red arrows to disconnect... I'm on version 3.55.25975.0
Hi, David.
I would like to have one of our support engineers look at your project, if possible, to see if it's related to the fixed bug. Are you comfortable uploading it into a case?
Hi Maria,
I'm sorry I deleted that question bank and now I can not replicate the problem. Its a bit strange.
I appreciate the update, David. Please let us know if you run into any additional strangeness with the triggers and we'd be happy to help.
Dear all,
we run into the same problem. We are on the same version as David (3.55.25975.0).
Strange thing we experience: These unwanted triggers are on several slides / scenes.
On some slides these triggers really work - so it jumps to the next slides and in OTHER scenes they do not work and just the "Red arrow" in the scene overview is visible.
If the unwanted trigger is NOT working, it is NOT possible to delete the connection (as explained above). I'm afraid that suddenly the trigger start working and then messing up...
If the unwanted trigger really work, it is possible to delete the connection...
We will send you a file that you can investigate on it.
Regards from Switzerland

Hi, Fabian.
We received a case from your colleague, Tobias, who is currently working with our engineer Mark.
Please reach out to Mark through the case if you or Tobias have additional questions.

Fabian / Maria, Can you please update this thread with the outcome of this investigation. Thanks
Hi David
So far we got the following response:
Projects which were built in older storyline version will have this problem and the unwanted link/trigger can be deleted as explained in this forum above.
Projects which were built in the version 3.55.25975.0 should not have this problem anymore.
Otherwise no news...
Regards, Fabian
Ahh ok thanks Fabian
I got the same issue, thank you for the solution, it works!
Hi Anne,
I'm glad that Phil's solution was able to help you out here. The latest updates should prevent you from experiencing this issue, so please be sure you are on the latest, Build 3.58.26627.0.
I appreciate you chiming in to share, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊
Unfortunately, I was unable to use Phil's approach because my connecting link was somehow disabled. So I tried a different approach: I created another scene and added the faulty slides there, and the mystery link/trigger was gone.
Please note: you need to make adjustments to your player’s ‘menu items’ since a new scene has been introduced. You can delete the scene’s heading and keep the sub-slides (children slides) as is.
I hope this helps! 😊
Hi Karnika,
Thanks so much for sharing what worked on your end! I'm sure other community members will find that helpful.
Have a great day ahead!
Thank you, Eric.
You have a great day as well! 😊
I had exactly the same issue! Thanks for this feedback which fixed it :)
