Need to clear fill-in-the-blank when user answers wrong
Aug 25, 2014
Hi - I'm new to Storyline and am sure the answer to my question is simple. I'm just not figuring it out.
I'm allowing the user several attempts to fill-in-the-blank on a quiz question. But I want the text box to clear out after the Incorrect interaction response is clicked.
I have set the slide to reset to initial state when revisited, but my understanding is that when the user answers wrong, it's not exactly revisiting the slide so the reset does not clear the box.
I believe I need a trigger of some sort, to reset the variable to null, but I am just not understanding the steps I need to follow to make this work.
Thank you in advance for some insight!

Hi Monica and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
You might be able to do this by changing the triggers for the "Try Again" button. Instead of only having the button close and hide that feedback layer, you could trigger the "Try Again" button to jump to the question slide, if that question contains only one question. If you have the question slide properties set to "Reset to initial state" this would reset the question.
Thank you, Leslie. That sounded like the perfect resolution but when I set the trigger, it still didn't work for me.
I was told that I need to initialize the variable when the course begins, but I just don't know the steps to do that.
Still searching and testing!
Hi Monica
you were told right. You should add a trigger.
When you add a text entry it appears on the variables' list.
Add a trigger to the try again button (or to a try again layer) and set the text entry to blank.
Have a look at the example below.
I hope it helps
