Next button not activating after media completes, and want it active if they go back.
Apr 23, 2020
Hi there
I know I have done this many times, I am not sure if it is different because it is a Vimeo embed code, but it is still considered media.
I have the NEXT button set to disabled, and to activated when Video (the Vimeo) one completes. I also assumed someone could fast forward and complete and it would activate (I am okay with this, these are adults and on the honour system).
I have a tight turn around for this, any chance someone might be able to help me this morning. Attaching the whole file. You will see a Webinar 1 and Webinar 2
The intro video is just a camtasia clip.
Also, as title mentions if they return I want Next to just be active. Sure I have done this all before...

Hi Teresa,
I am still newish to SL, but thought I'd look at your file to see how the embed codes work.
I made a change to the Slide trigger in on Slide 1.6, changed it to "return Next button to Normal when timeline ends," and it works better, though slowly.
When it is Published, you can drag the video playhead to near the end of the video, let it play to the end, then the playhead returns to the beginning of the video, wait a beat, and the Next button becomes enabled. I'm sorry if that's not the functionality you're looking for, if not, maybe this will jog your memory. This is the first time I've replied to someone's question on this forum, so apologies if I've overstepped protocol!
Thanks Elizabeth, I took a look, thank you so much for taking the time to look. I see what you did with the timeline ends. My timeline ends after 25 seconds so I saw the Next button activate. Not sure how long I can drag the timeline too, so it doesn't activate too soon.
You are never over stepping, it is awesome to hear from anyone and options they may have used. So it is appreciated. I would really like it see it work with the media, only because I am sure I did it before but of course can't find that course lol!
Hi Teresa,
You nailed it. When a video is hosted outside of Storyline, the timeline of the video is not a part of the slide. Triggering items based on when the media completes works perfectly if the file is added directly to the project.
The reason your Next button is inactive on revisit is because of the trigger to disable it when the timeline starts. To correct the Next button behavior on revisit:
I agree with Elizabeth and you will need to tie the trigger to the slide timeline to work properly because your video is hosted on a website.
Thanks Leslie, this is helpful too...so how long can you make your timeline? I have a webex that is 23 minutes long that they have had me put into the e-learning....just curious. I think I will just have it switch to normal after 30 seconds, it will be enough for them to notice it is disabled to start...hopefully encourage them to keep watching.
Hi Teresa,
Great question!
I haven't noticed a limit for the Timeline, so you can extend the MP4 file along the Timeline to match the length of the WebEx video. Applying what Leslie and Elizabeth mentioned, adjusting the length of the video on the Timeline and adding those triggers/variables should do the trick!
I also wanted to share this resource that provides further details on working with the Timeline:
Please let us know if you have any questions! We are happy to help!
Thanks Vincent, so if the video is 20 minutes, I will try dragging the timeline out...I have to do another one with 3 mini webinars and they are 6 to 11 minutes so that will be a good test as well. And thanks for the link I will check it out.
Based on your link it looks like if I right click and go to Timing it will be the quickest way to expand the timeline I will test it out...
