Nothing Appearing in Preview Mode?
Oct 29, 2015
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a slightly unique file. It's a single slide with a line of text that the user just needs to read and select in order to "affirm" the statement. We had this set up in Quizmaker '13 just fine, now we are moving to Storyline 2 and I'm having trouble getting the file to cooperate.
In order for the file to perform correctly in our LMS, it needs to be a "graded" file - in place of what would normally be an exam piece. I have one multiple choice slide with one possible correct response, connected to a results slide with a passing score of 0%. (This is essentially how we set up the QM13 file.) However, now I can't seem to preview the file at all to see if this will work. Nothing shows up except the player frame.
Any answers on why this is, or any suggestions on setting up a file like this would be extremely helpful!
Thanks!
Melanie

Melanie,
Could you share your .story file? That way we can see exactly what you are talking about.
Here it is. I stripped it down a bit to preserve confidentiality.
It just essentially needs to be a statement the user "attests" to, while actually working as a graded "question" that can't be failed. It needs to register as a "passed exam" in our system to unlock the evaluation and complete a course. Again, we were able to do it without issue in Quizmaker, but Storyline is posing some problems. I'm sure I'm just missing some silly trigger, or something is out of order.
Hi, Melanie -- So sorry to hear your are having difficulties! Have you had an opportunity to double check this information on Importing Slides From Articulate Quizmaker, and also this information on Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in SL2? It may be helpful to run through the repair steps listed or even try importing your file into a new file.
And yes, I agree with Terry: if you are able to share your file, it will be really helpful for others to do some testing and offer advice or suggestions. Please use the ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left corner of the reply box and you are able to browse for your file from there.
Hi Christie - Looks like we replied at the same time. Thanks, I'll take a look at those links and see if anything helps.
We sure did, Melanie! Thanks for sharing your file and I will take a look on my end as soon as possible to see if I encounter the behavior you have described. And yes, please let us know if any of the troubleshooting suggestions offered does the trick for you! :)
Melanie,
I did adjust this a little bit so that the continue layer would take you to the next slide, that way it is seen. But otherwise everything was able to be viewed on my machine.
Here is a copy of what I had done.
Hi, Melanie -- I checked out your file and then Terry's suggestion, and I think his idea will do the trick for you nicely. Please let us know if you have something else in mind when you get a chance!
Thank you, Terry! I was playing with either using the "Results" slide or the "Continue" layer, so the settings may be a little wonky for those. I see the adjustments you made, but I still can't preview anything. There must be a separate issue going on for me.
I didnt see a results slide in the file that you sent in, although all the variables are there for one. In the storyview I had two slides in total, with the first slide have 2 additional layers. Everything that I saw in the storyview I was able to see in the preview. Am I missing something?
Hm, that's odd. Maybe I just need to start from scratch. The slide labeled "Results Slide" with a light blue background is supposed to be the results slide.
I wasn't sure if I needed to have the user navigate to a Results slide in order for the question slide to be graded and submitted, that's why I had a Continue layer. I was trying to see if the Continue layer could be triggered after the user responded to the statement and then they could exit directly from there. That wasn't working, so then I was trying to see if navigating the user to the actual Results slide made it work. I should have clarified that, I'm sorry! I will try to copy what you did in a completely new file and see if I can get it to work.
OK I follow... sorry Friday Brain... The light blue slide is there, I just didnt see that it was labeled 'Result Slide'. lol. You could use it as I sent it to you as a launch point into other questions, that way you can have them attest then go to the quiz bank, too. Only grading the quizbank at that point. Let us know if that works out for you.
I guess there was just something corrupted with that particular file that wouldn't let me preview and therefore publish the file correctly.
I imported the original Quizmaker version of the file into a new Storyline file and made the necessary adjustments. It seems to be working correctly now!
Thank you both so much!
Right on! Glad to hear it worked out.
That is excellent news, Melanie! We appreciate the update and thanks for sharing your file for others to review. :)
