Am I missing something? We are wondering why there is not a button to hide the slide's base layer for each corresponding layer. Such a pain to hide each item on the base layer every time a new layer is added.
You are missing something: the Slide Layer Properties. Yup, layers have their own properties, including a checkbox for hiding the base layer.
Also, if you want to hide only some of the objects on the base layer, you can cover them up with an object on the layer that has the same color as the base's background. That's typically easier than using triggers to hide and re-show objects on the base.
i think perhaps this setting has changed in subsequent updates of SL. How do i go about hiding a base layer now? The menu i get when i click on the gear wheel does not bring up the option to hide the base layer. please help
The option is still there, but you need to ensure you are on the layer when clicking the gear wheel (not on the base layer). You can also right-click the layer and choose Properties.
thanks Maria, really helpful. now i just need to figure out how to hide the base layer at a certain point in time so that the audio continues with the new layer.... any ideas?
You could build a rectangular shape that ccovers the whole slide. Make it the top item on the base, fill it with whatever appeals to you, and give it the initial state of hidden. Start the audio layer, and change the rectangle to Normal state.
